Some tipps for windows xp:

NOTE: please create a backup of your registry or even better the whole system!

*If you want to disable the video-previews in the left sidebar of your windows-explorer, just go to your registry via „start“ – „run“ – type „regedit“.

Then search for the {BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}. If you find the key in keys called shellex, you can delete them (or rename them).
There should be no preview of the touched filetypes anymore.

*If you want to disable the zip-filesearch in windows:

goto start – run and execute the following commands:
regsvr32 %windir%\system32\zipfldr.dll /u

if you would like to turn it on again ever, just execute:
regsvr32 %windir%\system32\zipfldr.dll

you should get a success message then.
