Work appointments say a lot: who meets whom, at which client, about what. On iPhone and iPad, the iOS work account syncs them with the company server, and they stay between server and device. Anyone who also uses an app for these appointments should know whether they stay there.

What is in a work appointment?
More than you might think:
- People Names and email addresses of colleagues, clients and applicants.
- Places Addresses of clients, practices or someone's home.
- Content Titles such as "Discuss termination" or "Nordwind offer", plus notes and dial-in details.
That is personal data, and often customer data. If it goes to another service, it sits on someone else's server there, and your employer usually needs a contract with that service for it.

What to look for in an app for work appointments
- Sign-in If the app asks you to sign in with your work account, a service outside the device reads along.
- Privacy details in the App Store They list which data an app collects.
- Privacy policy It says whether appointments go to a server and who processes them there.
- Your IT Many companies have a list of allowed apps, or a rule for it.

Your company decides. When in doubt, ask IT. It helps the answer to know whether the app only reads the appointments on the device or sends them to a server.
Does the maker of a calendar app see my appointments?
If the app signs in to your calendar service, its service reads the appointments. If it only reads the iOS calendar on the device and sends nothing away, the maker sees nothing.
Does Peal send appointments to a server?
